In Ireland the Government holds responsibility for ensuring the quality of each building structure whether it is a residential or commercial building. Building Control (Amendment) Regulation S.I 9. will effect Self Builders in Ireland. For generations it has been tradition for people to self build their own homes but the new amendment introduced will bring a halt to this.

Since the 1st of March 2014 all self builders must now employ the services of certified professional architects, engineers and building surveyor’s. They must appoint a competent building contractor who holds 3 years relevant experience and who is the principal of a building firm. Unless they hold the relevant experience themselves they will not under law be allowed to do so. The property must be accessed and key stages must be certified by the relevant professionals appointed by the client to complete the works.
